Man, so July’s rolling on, right? And PlayStation’s doing its thing with sales. I swear, they know just how to make us spend our cash on games we didn’t even know we needed. Happens every time. Right now, the PS Store is slashing prices on some killer games for PS5 and PS4. And there’s this PS5 exclusive that’s, like, begging for attention.
Okay, so imagine this: Returnal — which sounds all moody and sci-fi, right? — is like, way cheaper now. 58% off or something wild like that. Usually it’s around 70 bucks, but now it’s down to, um, about 30-ish. A steal, really. But here’s the kicker: sale ends July 17th at 2:59 a.m. ET. Who picks these times? Seriously, who?
Anyway — oh wait, let me think — yeah, so you’re Selene, crash-landed on some alien planet that just won’t stay still. Keeps changing. Kind of a metaphor for life, huh? Each time you bite the dust, you start over. Groundhog Day but with guns. The planet, your gear, the whole shebang changes with each run. Gotta keep switching up your strategy. Keeps you on your toes, like, constantly.
And people dig it. When it dropped in 2021, the reviews were pretty sweet. Metacritic had it at, I think, 86 from 115 critics. I remember it grabbed a bunch of awards. Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2021 — no small feat. Also, nailed the Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design at the D.I.C.E. Awards. Not bad, right?
Ah, our review — we were hyped. Gave it a perfect 10 out of 10. Couldn’t help ourselves. It’s like Housemarque took this rogue-like thing and pumped it full of AAA energy. Uniquely familiar, if that makes sense. Keeps you hooked with its story, gameplay, everything. Surprises everywhere.
So yeah, if you’re into existential crises with a side of aliens, Returnal’s your game. But move fast, July 17th’s just around the corner.
