Meta just rolled out a Zoom app in the Horizon Store. Yeah, now you can join Zoom meetings as your Quest avatar. Imagine your virtual self sipping coffee in a meeting. Wild, right?
Anyway, so back in 2021, Quest folks could hop into Zoom calls within Horizon Workrooms. That was more like, “Hey, let’s have a face-to-face chat in VR,” but it included webcam users too. Now, if you’re not into all that jazz and just want Zoom sans frills, there’s a standalone version. Free, by the way. Meta calls it this smooth extension of the Zoom app you’re already using. Fancy talk for something simple, I guess.
Okay, picture this: you’re in a meeting, but on Zoom as your Horizon Worlds avatar. Not exactly the immersive world like Horizon Workrooms, though. It’s more like your cartoonish self is thrown onto a 2D screen for everyone to see. Makes me wonder, are people actually down for this? Meta avatars have come a long way, sure, but dude, they’re still kinda… cartoonish? Especially when Apple’s got these slick Persona avatars now. Oh, and Vision Pro’s had Zoom with Persona since back in Feb 2024. Thought you should know that little tidbit.
But hey, who’s gonna argue against free stuff? To jump in, snag the Zoom Workplace app from the Horizon Store. Use your usual Zoom login and you’re off to the virtual races. Or meetings. Same thing—kind of.
