Okay, so here’s the thing. The 2025 WNBA season is kicking off this week, and I can’t even pretend not to be a little excited. Meta? They’re hopping on board, streaming games on Quest. Yup, Xtadium app and Horizon Worlds NBA Arena are where it’s at.
You won’t believe it, they’re giving us 20 games live this season. Five of those? They’re gonna be in 180-degree immersive video. No clue how they pull that off—feels like sci-fi or something.
Oh, and just a heads-up. Xtadium is for the U.S. only. Pretty exclusive, right? Private virtual watch parties sound like a blast, but don’t worry if you’re more of a social butterfly—NBA Arena’s got the public parties covered. You can just jump into Horizon Worlds for that.
May 27th is gonna be fun. They’re dropping WNBA-branded avatar merch. I mean, who doesn’t want a spiffy avatar? I wonder if they’ll have sparkly sneakers. Anyway, it’s gonna be right there in Horizon Worlds, just waiting for us impulsive buyers.
Of course, there’s always a catch—it’s this thing called “geo-restrictions.” Some games might not pop up in certain areas because of these blackout rules. It’s like they want you to get up and go to the game. Who would’ve thought, right?
Here’s the game lineup, just so you’re in the loop, or maybe so I won’t forget:
– May 18: Minnesota Lynx at Los Angeles Sparks, 3:00 pm PT
– May 22: New York Liberty at Chicago Sky, 5:00 pm PT
– May 27: Immersive Game: Chicago Sky at Phoenix Mercury, 7:00 pm PT
… and a bunch more. Seriously, the list goes till September. My attention span’s already fading, but there’s some epic matchups in there. Guess I’ll see which games survive my vacation plans.
Honestly, all these dates and teams feel like trying to remember which days to water my plants. But hey, the live streams sound totally worth the mental gymnastics. So, if you see someone in Horizon Worlds, shouting at the virtual refs? Probably me. Well, or someone else who actually knows what’s happening in the game.
