Alright, so here we are, middle of the week, and bam! Outta nowhere comes this nugget of news about Cyberpunk 2077—well, its sequel, to be exact. Yep, CD Projekt lifted the curtain (sorta) on it, saying it’s now officially in pre-production. They’ve ditched the whole “Project Orion” alias, too. Now it’s just Cyberpunk 2. Straight to the point, huh?
This announcement snuck into our day through one of those financial presentation thingies. You know the ones. Honestly, I mostly tuned in for the Cyberpunk stuff and maybe, okay definitely, got distracted by the wrinkly guys in ties talking numbers. But they did give a shout-out to the dev team for reaching this milestone. And oh, they’re getting ready to launch the first game on Nintendo Switch 2. Can you imagine? Cyberpunk in portable form. Wild.
CD Projekt said something like, “A few weeks back, our red-bannered crew wrapped up the conceptual phase” – whatever that really means. And bam, now they’re knee-deep in pre-production. This journey from Project Orion to Cyberpunk 2 feels like a scavenger hunt I didn’t realize I was on until the end.
I peeked at their full-on PowerPoint (lots of pie charts, not as much pie, sadly). Hashtag nerd alert: As of April 30, there were 96 devs working on Cyberpunk 2, up from 84 in February. Doesn’t touch the 422 folks on Witcher 4 duty though. There’s a small army in “shared services” too – 131 people doing the behind-the-scenes magic like localization and QA for various games. Behind every great game are a zillion unsung heroes, am I right?
Side note revelation: Phantom Liberty expansion’s gone platinum or whatever. Shifted 10 million copies. And Witcher 3, bless its 10-year-old heart, sold 60 million. So yeah, people are visiting Dogtown and monster-whacking harder than ever.
Gotta wonder whether this Cyberpunk 2 name’s gonna stick. Will it morph into one with a snazzy year, you think? Could make it mesh better with the OG Cyberpunk 2077 title, but who knows. Mike Pondsmith, the legend behind the tabletop RPG, hints at this new city vibe – like Chicago, but a dystopian mess. Sounds delightful, really. Okay, where was I? Sorry, brain meter’s maxed out.
And oh, cookies – they kept nudging me with cookie management. I guess I defaulted to letting the crumbs fall where they may!
