Oh man, where to start with this? Okay, so EA’s finally yanking the plug on Anthem. Yeah, that game. They’re taking it offline, like, January 12th, 2026? I remember when it launched in 2019—felt like it just stumbled out the gate, right? Anyway, no more buying that in-game currency stuff, though if you’ve already got some, you can still use it. I don’t know why that detail sticks with me, but it does.
So, EA posts this blog saying thanks for all the dedication and whatever. I mean, you gotta appreciate their politeness, but it’s almost like they’re writing a breakup letter. Oh, they also said—and here’s an interesting bit—that shutting down Anthem didn’t lead to layoffs. At least, not yet. Might be a different story later, who knows.
Anthem was supposed to be this epic live-service thing from BioWare and EA. But yeah, didn’t quite catch on, did it? I still remember reading about its messy development process. Kind of wild, if you think about it. Somewhere down the line in 2019, BioWare was all like, “Hey, we’re fixing it!” Then they floated the idea of Anthem Next. Cue the dramatic music. Spoiler: It got canceled too.
So, yeah, there’s that. What a ride.
