Okay, so picture this: The Jackbox Party Pack 11—yeah, number 11, can you believe it?—is dropping on Xbox. It’s happening this fall. Five completely new games. Count ’em, five! We’re talking a joke-writing game, a cozy little drawing game, a sound effects bonanza—whatever that means—a social deduction game, and drumroll… Legends of Trivia, a trivia RPG. Yeah, I didn’t see that coming either.
Legends of Trivia kind of mixes trivia with a fantasy vibe. You’ve got to team up with your buddies to take down these monstrous trivia questions. Answer right, you smack the monster. Answer wrong, well, let’s just say it’s not pretty. It sounds like the kind of thing you’d dream up after a marathon session of playing Dungeons & Dragons or something. And I mean that in the best way.
Caught up with some of the people behind this madness: Warren Arnold (Game Director), Hector Padilla (the art guy), and Nate Sandberg, who’s the audio wizard. And no, they’re not the new boy band in town, but they might as well be with how much fun they’re having.
One thing Warren mentioned is that Legends of Trivia is a pretty big deal for Jackbox. Lots of moving parts: action, animation, the whole ensemble. Some players might even achieve “Legendary” status. Whatever that means. So you better believe they’ve put some serious elbow grease into this.
Apparently, Hector pitched this idea back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, or maybe five or six years ago, same difference. The idea was shelved for a while, but Hector’s notes made their way back into the spotlight thanks to Nate randomly digging them up. It’s always those random moments that kickstart something, right? After years of simmering on the back burner, it’s finally seeing the light of day.
As for the inspiration behind the game’s audio and art, Nate’s majorly into the 8-bit tunes from the old Final Fantasy days. You know, those tunes you can’t ever forget. He’s bringing some of that vibe into this game, mixing it with lutes and trombones. Why trombones? Because why not.
Hector, on the other hand, is channeling Ken Sugimori of Pokémon fame. They’re like, turning pixels into art, man. But he confesses UI and layouts trip him up sometimes, which is such a mood.
Hector’s got a soft spot for Azura, The Princess Mage. It’s like he tapped into his inner magical girl. And don’t get him started on Bingo, The Rogue Jester. Apparently, clowns need love too.
Nate’s favorite audio bit? Some boss ogre riding a little donkey. It sounds hilarious. He had fun with it, using squeaky toys and xylophones for donkey noises while giving the ogre some serious bass. Bet you didn’t expect that combo.
The dream? To make players feel like they’re part of the game. Where their choices and characters actually count for something. Maybe even create melodies that burrow into your brain like those old-school RPG tunes.
Anyway, keep an eye out for The Jackbox Party Pack 11, descending on Xbox this fall. Follow their antics on Instagram and TikTok if you’re into that whole social thing. It’s gonna be a wild ride!
