In a similar vein, industry analyst Mat Piscatella has revealed which games topped the charts across all platforms in 2024, underscoring the validity of this approach.
In a detailed post on Bluesky, Piscatella shared a ranking of the top 20 games based on dollar sales in the U.S. for 2024. This comprehensive list includes both physical and digital sales from major platforms like Nintendo eShop, PlayStation, Steam, and Xbox, covering the period from December 30, 2023, to January 4, 2025. Here’s the rundown:

For those who regularly keep an eye on sales data, many of these titles won’t come as a shock. Games like Call of Duty, NBA 2K, and GTA 5, along with EA Sports FC (formerly known as FIFA), are perennial top performers in the market. However, the entry of Helldivers 2 from PlayStation’s live service lineup is quite surprising when considering Sony’s previous struggles in this domain. Despite past setbacks, Arrowhead’s sequel has managed to set off on a strong foot.
