A massive discount on the PSVR 2 headset took its holiday sales on Amazon US to unexpected heights, pushing its numbers to nearly five times what they were last year.
During the Black Friday and holiday rush, the PSVR 2 was offered at an enticing 42% discount when bundled with the game Horizon. This deal slashed the US price from its original $550 down to a very tempting $350.
As anticipated, this price cut significantly boosted the headset’s sales volume—far beyond what might have been initially expected. Remarkably, PSVR 2 hit nearly five times more peak sales on Amazon US during the 2024 holiday season compared to what it managed in 2023.
Of course, we should remember that PSVR 2 didn’t really benefit from any major discounts during the 2023 holiday period. Naturally, if you slash the price of something in half, you’d imagine the sales would double at best. But here, the PSVR 2 shows a much more dramatic impact, which hints at a complex interplay between pricing and consumer demand.
In 2024, Sony didn’t wait for Black Friday to kick off the sale. They got a head start and kept the discounted prices rolling well into the new year. This prolonged sale period suggests Sony might have been clearing inventory, potentially hinting at an upcoming new model or a refresh, like a new bundle or a redesigned, more affordable version. While there are whispers that Sony might be trying to offload the headset due to dwindling interest, it’s more likely they plan to keep the PSVR 2 in the lineup until the next console generation rolls out, even if it doesn’t remain a critical focus for them.
