### HDMI 2.2: A Game Changer Arriving with Next-Gen Gaming GPUs
The CES event is shaping up to unveil a host of innovative tech, with a brand-new HDMI standard set to take the spotlight. This will mark the evolution from the current HDMI 2.1 ports. According to a report from ComputerBase, the HDMI Licensing Administrator plans to introduce a “breakthrough” technology at the event. Although they haven’t officially named the upcoming version, it’s almost certain we’ll be meeting HDMI 2.2, which promises to deliver higher bandwidth, enhanced resolution support, and improved refresh rates.

However, it’s crucial to remember that the HDMI LA’s statement didn’t officially name the upcoming standard, leaving room for speculation. It’s feasible, although unlikely considering past release patterns, that we might simply witness an upgrade to the current HDMI 2.1 standard.
While the specifics of what HDMI 2.2 will bring to the table remain under wraps, the expectation is that it will surpass current capabilities. The HDMI 2.1 standard already supports up to 48 Gbps bandwidth and resolutions reaching 10,240 × 4,320 pixels, so the new iteration is expected to go beyond these figures.
So far, no GPU manufacturers have confirmed plans to integrate HDMI 2.2 into their next-generation GPUs. The only significant upgrade we’ve seen recently is the inclusion of DisplayPort 2.1 in AMD’s RDNA 3 GPU series, with whispers suggesting that NVIDIA’s forthcoming “RTX 5000” Blackwell GPUs might feature it as well. Should the HDMI 2.2 standard officially be announced, there’s a possibility the upcoming GPUs might embrace this new standard. However, we still stand in the realm of uncertainty as detailed information remains scarce.
