So, here’s the scoop – Beat Games, the crew behind Beat Saber (you know, that wildly addictive rhythm game with the blocks), just dropped a bomb. They’re basically saying, “Hey, PSVR folks, no more updates for you.” Yeah, not even for PSVR 2. And, it’s starting like right now. Multiplayer? Forget it. That’s going offline early next year.
It all came out in a tweet – or an X post, ’cause Twitter’s trying to reinvent itself or something. The gist? Beat Games is kinda moving on. They’ve got this big plan for the future, although who really knows what that means. The suspense is killing me.
But don’t freak out just yet. If you’re chilling with the PSVR setup, you can still play and buy Beat Saber like nothing happened. All your old stuff? Yours to keep. It’s like, “No new songs, but enjoy what you’ve got!” Pretty chill, I suppose.
Oh, and if you’ve ever jammed to Lady Gaga’s ‘Abracadabra’ as a Beat Saber track, congratulations, that’s the swan song. June 5th, mark that date.
Now here’s the kicker – come January 21st, 2026, multiplayer says adios on PS4/PS5. I mean, it was cool while it lasted, right? PC VR and Quest folks had it first in 2020, but PlayStation just couldn’t catch up.
Guess what? Quest is definitely the golden child here. Over 10 million Beat Saber units sold. Meta must be throwing a party or something. Steam’s not out of the game either; they’ll keep getting music packs.
It’s funny, Meta and PlayStation seemed like an unlikely pair since 2018. But now, it feels like Meta’s packing up and leaving. Especially with PSVR 2 not getting the love it deserves.
It’s like, Sony thought, “Let’s build this awesome headset and then, well, maybe not focus on games.” Devs are looking elsewhere – bigger fish like Quest and SteamVR to fry.
So, PSVR 2 now has that neat trick with the wired adapter for PC VR. And soon, those sleek PSVR 2 Sense Controllers will play nice with Apple Vision Pro. Talk about irony, right?
I don’t know about you, but this whole thing leaves me wondering… what’s next in the gaming matrix?
