Alright, so there’s this new video game coming to the something-called Switch 2 (cause Nintendo can’t keep things simple, can they?) called Drag x Drive. Honestly, it popped up in their lineup like, “Hey, we’re here too,” and everyone was basically like, “Wait, what?” Anyway, there’s a new trailer out, and it’s diving deep into this whole wheelchair-basketball-mouse-controls thing. Sounds chaotic, right? But somehow, here we are.
The trailer itself goes on for over 7 minutes — probably more info than anyone asked for but hey, at least it’s packed. They show how you’re supposed to handle controls, some jaw-dropping tricks (or maybe not-so-jaw-dropping, you be the judge), and a sneak peek of stuff happening outside the main arena. Question is, will this even matter?
I remember us being puzzled over on the Pure Nintendo Podcast, like, what else do you do besides 3-on-3 matches? Turns out, there are minigames — cause why stick to the main game, right? Online play’s a thing, naturally, and oh, you get training mode too. You know, in case you wanna practice against bots. Exciting stuff.
Here’s some official spiel straight from Nintendo’s mouth:
Wanna play online? Cool, jump into a lobby with friends or random folks from god-knows-where. Six players mean the game kicks off. Feel like sparring with friends only? There’s Friend Parks (yup, legit name), where you can go wild without the outside world peeking in. Have at it with up to 12 people or chill with 6 folks and two courts. It’s chaotic in the best way. Probably.
Offline loners rejoice, cause you can go against the computer too. There are these different driver options like Guard, Center, or Forward. Each has its own flair, apparently. So, pick your lineup wisely unless you just wanna wing it.
If you’re itching for something else, there’s this Circuit Sprint minigame, and things like shooting contests. Park-wide challenges are a thing, with names like Rebound Scramble and, um, jump rope? Feel like a pro as you collect trophies and customize—wait for it—helmets. Rock those helmets with style, mix ’em with armor and your favorite colors. Maybe throw a number on there for good measure.
So, what do you reckon? This game could sneak up and be a surprise favorite for Nintendo, or maybe it won’t. Only time—and maybe some persevere—will tell for sure. But if you wanna get in on the action early, check out the Global Jam sessions on August 9 to 10. Play the demo, get a feel. Beats waiting till the official release, right?
Catch those hoop dreams—or dunks? Whatever works—when Drag x Drive drops on the Switch August 14. Nervous excitement, anyone?
